We are writing to share difficult news.
On January 1, 2026, Love Uganda Foundation received a formal eviction notice for our children’s home in Mukono. We have until February 28, 2026 to pay our rent arrears or vacate the premises.
This letter is both an explanation of how we got here and a humble request for help.
What Happened
We fell behind on rent starting in March 2025. Over the past 11 months, the arrears have grown to UGX 11,000,000—approximately $3,000 USD. Our monthly rent is UGX 1,000,000, which is about $270. The landlord has been patient, but has now given us a firm deadline: February 28, 2026.
How We Got Here
Love Uganda Foundation has served vulnerable children since 2006. For most of that time, our primary funding came from Love Uganda Safaris, a tourism business that directed 40% of its proceeds to support the orphanage.
When COVID-19 stopped global travel in 2020, our income disappeared almost overnight. The safari business has never fully recovered.
We have done everything we can to keep going:
- We cut costs wherever possible
- We stretched limited resources
- Our founder Robert sold his personal vehicle to cover expenses—not a symbolic gesture, but a desperate act of love for the children
Despite these efforts, we could not keep up with the rent. The arrears continued to grow.
What This Means for the Children
Twenty children currently live at our home in Mukono. Many have lost one or both parents. Others came from situations of extreme poverty, neglect, or abandonment. For some of them, this is the first stable environment they have ever known. If we lose this home, there is no backup facility waiting for them. There is no safe alternative lined up. For many, returning to extended family is not possible. The streets are not an option.
These children did not ask for this situation. They continue to attend school, to laugh, to dream about their futures. They trust that the adults caring for them will find a way.
Our Plan
We owe $3,000. We are not asking for $3,000 today. Our immediate goal is smaller: raise $270—one month’s rent—within the next 7 days.
This is not victory. This is a first step. But it is a critical one.
If we can make this payment, we demonstrate to our landlord that we are committed to resolving our debt. This gives us a foundation to negotiate a payment plan for the remaining $2,730. Without this good-faith payment, we have nothing to negotiate with.
Our 7-day goal: $270 by MONDAY, Feb 2nd, 2026.
How You Can Help
We are asking for donations to help us make this first payment. Any amount helps:
- $10 covers a child’s food for a week
- $30 is 1/9 of one month’s rent
- $270 covers one full month
To be clear: reaching $270 does not solve our problem. We will still owe $2,730 after this. But it keeps us at the table with our landlord and buys time for the children. If you are unable to give financially, sharing this message with others who might be able to help is also meaningful.
Our Commitment to You
We will provide updates on our progress. We will share how funds are used. We remain committed to our mission: caring for these children until they can thrive independently.
“We never give up till that one individual’s life under our care is impacted positively.”
This has always been our guiding principle, and it remains true today.
Thank You
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Whether you are able to help financially, share our story, or simply keep us in your thoughts, we are grateful.
From all of us at Love Uganda Foundation,
Robert Kyeyune and the LUF Team
