According to the World Health Organization, 2.0 billion people still do not have basic sanitation facilities such as toilets or latrines and of these, 673 million still defecate in the open, for example in street gutters, behind bushes or into open bodies of water.

In our sanitation program, we reach out to communities and sensitize them on proper ways of disposal of human waste, encouraging them to construct pit latrines and good sanitation habits such as hand washing, proper maintenance of water bodies such as wells etc. This is a key area of focus as WHO notes that “inadequate sanitation is estimated to cause 432,000 diarrheal deaths annually.”
