Thinking of orphans in Uganda? Those little ones without parents and anyone to look up to? Yet they still need to survive? They still need to put food on the table for themselves and perhaps their young ones. This could be the right piece for you to read and see how to best engage orphans in Uganda in sustainable development activities.
Begging on the streets of Kampala as the last resort, countless orphans in Uganda have tried their best to engage in activities that would sustain them and live normal lives, but all in vain. Perhaps because they lacked skills and guidance or maybe they lacked the capital.
Several kind people all over the world are yearning to extend a helping hand to these suffering souls in Uganda, but they keep wondering how best they can support lives, change lives and empower the next generation in a more sustainable way other than just donating gifts and money.
The best solution is engaging the orphans in Uganda in sustainable development activities, being with a guarantee that these little souls are acquiring skills as well as earning something.
Commercialized Agriculture: This can be done by all orphans in Uganda regardless of their age groups. This is done on the secured land got through grants and other means in order to carry out agriculture on a large scale where after the season say beans, maize, cassava, sweet potatoes as well as the reared animals are put on the market for sale and the cash is put to their benefit for use. This has sponsored school going orphans in Uganda and also reduced hunger in the orphanages the fact that food is always readily available.
Vocational training skills: This is majorly attained by the youth orphans in Uganda who are in the working age group and those that did not further their education because of uncertainties. However we could still also impart the simple skills in the little orphans, say the handcraft making. In this, the youths are engaged in carpentry, mechanics, brick laying and plumbing. Females could be trained in catering, tailoring, baking, florist and other income generating activities where they could earn a little living.
Supporting organizations dedicated to sustainable developments that help orphans: This could be through the combined efforts of the government, public sector, international partners, sponsors, donors and other well-wishers to help NGOs like Love Uganda Foundation. Those organizations that have come up with projects like Love Uganda Safaris to sustain their organization in supporting the orphans in Uganda. If you cannot donate freely, atleast have a safaris with their travel company so that you indirectly support the orphanage, since 40% of the profits go to the foundation.
With all the above, and some new innovations put in place, there is no way we are going to see orphans suffering in Uganda. Whether little or old ones, everyone will atleast have a starting edge in life.
If only we came together as one, commercialized agriculture, engaged orphans in vocational training and other business activities. This world would be a better place to live in.
